What exactly is half year cheerleading?
Half year cheerleading is a lower-level commitment of all star cheer. It is great for girls and boys that participate in other sports or even Pop Warner cheerleading, but still want to continue with cheer at a higher level. Usually, this program is offered by most gyms and starts in November or December, and continues until late April or early May. On another positive note, it is much more cheaper than traditional all- star cheer. Prep teams compete at about 4-5 local competitions and compete against other half year teams. The tuition ranges from $100 to $200 depending on the gym. It may seem expensive but it is much cheaper than traditional all star. Typically you have to rent the uniform which isn't as nice as the full year teams. Half year may seem like a great opportunity, and in some cases it is, but when I did half year 2 times at 2 different gyms it wasn't that great of an experience. For most gyms, they focus mainly on the highest level team and all full year teams, so half year teams are the least thing on the coaches' minds. No hate intended!
